Rule Against Perpetuities

The rule against perpetuities is a standard created to avoid perpetual control of property by people who are deceased. Generally, the rule is that an interest in property must vest, if at all, not later than twenty-one years after a life in being at the creation of the interest. Fortunately, Ohio allows you to opt-out of this rule so it does not apply to the trust we create for clients.
